Frequently asked
- The panel doesn't open.
- Move the pointer onto the notch at the top of the screen. If nothing happens, open Settings from the menu bar item, go to General, and increase the opening distance.
- My Mac has no notch.
- It still works: the panel opens from the middle of the menu bar, where a notch would be.
- The player shows nothing.
- Only Music and Spotify are recognised — they are the only two apps on the Mac that publish what they play. Allow boring notch to control them when macOS asks, or in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation.
- The mixer is empty, or asks for a permission.
- macOS only allows per-app volume through the Screen & System Audio Recording permission. No audio is ever recorded: it is used to set volumes and show sound levels, nothing else.
- Lyrics don't show up.
- They come from an open community database and don't exist for every track. Check as well that they are turned on in Settings → Lyrics.
- The keyboard lock won't start.
- It needs no permission. To get out of it: the Stop button on screen — the mouse and trackpad stay active — or the automatic unlock you can set in Settings. Volume and brightness keys keep working.
Purchase
- How does the trial work?
- The whole app is free for seven days. After that, a single purchase unlocks it for good — no subscription.
- I already paid, but the app asks me to pay again.
- On a new Mac or after reinstalling, open Settings → General → Licence and click Restore: the purchase belongs to your Apple Account, not to the machine.
