boring notch collects no personal data. There is no account, no advertising, no
analytics, and no server of ours.
What stays on your Mac
Everything the app handles stays in its own storage on your computer, and is never transmitted:
- the files dropped on the shelf, kept as references that macOS controls;
- the quick note and the clipboard history;
- your settings;
- what is read from your calendar — displayed and then forgotten, never changed or saved;
- what Music and Spotify are playing, and their cover art;
- the mixer's sound levels, computed live: no audio is recorded or kept.
What the app looks up online
Two things only, and never with an account, machine or user identifier:
- Cover art. Spotify covers are downloaded from Spotify's image server, at the address Spotify provides for the track. When Music has no cover for a streamed track, it is looked up by title, artist and album in Apple's public iTunes catalog.
- Lyrics, only if you turn them on (they are off by default): the app queries lrclib.net, an open community database, with the track's title and artist.
Everything that comes back stays in memory and is never written to disk.
Permissions
Each permission the app asks for serves one feature, and declining it stops only that one: calendars to show your events, automation to control Music and Spotify, system audio capture to set the volume app by app.
Children
The app is not directed at children, and collects no data from anyone, whatever their age.
Changes
Any change to this policy will be published on this page, with a new update date.
